TOYS
What exactly is a toy? How to check if a given product is CE marked?
In case of toys, there are rules that clearly define how to ensure that toys are safe to use and how to prove them. The safety requirements for toys and their manufacturers are clearly defined by the so-called TOYS 2009/48 / EC toys directive applicable to any product designed and intended to be played by children under the age of 14. Any product designed to be played by a child will be a toy. Everyone, including handicrafts. A toy will also be a product that resembles a toy due to its characteristic features. If a manufacturer plans to place a product bearing the characteristics of a toy on the market, he must CE-mark it and fulfill the criteria set out in the Toys Directive.
What regulations are toys subject to?
Toys placed on the market in the European Union must meet the provisions of the toy directive 2009/48 / EC (compliance with EN 71 standards)
- EN 71-1: Mechanical and physical properties
- EN 71-2: Flammability
- EN 71-3: Specification for migration of certain elements

That is why the toys manufactured by Cotton & Sweets are subjected to strict tests at a specialized research institute. How CE marking process looks like?
In the first stage, it is necessary to collect the documentation required by the Toys Directive, a detailed description of the product and qualify it for appropriate tests based on the conducted hazard analysis.
Then, the safety of the toy must be proven - here is the process of strict tests of the toy in accordance with the EN 71 standards. The performance of safety tests to the EN 71 standards is an important stage in granting the CE marking to the toy and without it, the toy cannot be legally placed on the market.
In the next step, the manufacturer issues a declaration of product compliance with applicable regulations.
Placing appropriate warnings and markings (CE) on the toy.
